Boudoir Lingerie FAQ: 3 Best Tips to Compliment Your Body

Boudoir

Do you know how to choose your boudoir lingerie? Not the shapeless babydolls found in the aisle of Wal-Mart that you wear to sleep, but pieces that compliment your body? It’s ok if the answer is no. Not every woman wears sexy outfits for their partners–or themselves. There is nothing inherently wrong with choosing what works for you. But when it comes time for your boudoir photoshoot, don’t stress. We’ve got you.

One of our most frequently asked questions is how to find lingerie pieces that complement your body and photograph well. With so many colors and styles to choose from, and models on the tags that have the most “perfectly” proportioned body, lingerie shopping can become overwhelming. If you want to spend less time trying on garments and more time choosing the best pieces, it starts with one important factor: you.

If you have a body, which we assume you do if you’re reading this, then we can find lingerie that looks and feels great. We’ll help you feel just as confident as you look.

Boudoir Lingerie FAQ: What colors do I choose?

Like the debuffed myths about boudoir photography, I have a theory about color decision as well. Red is the color most associated with sex appeal. It’s a color often used in lingerie and advertisements, especially around Valentine’s Day. But often, red will wash out your complexion. It’s not about being an awful color, but it’s a bold color that takes away from rather than compliments through a lens.

Unless red is your go-to color, we recommend checking out photos from our gallery. You’ll see our gorgeous studio, the type of lighting we use, and can choose colors that complement the colors inside our studio.

Black is a great color choice, but we also recommend mixing it up. If you’re often wearing green, white, or even pink, finding lingerie pieces in those colors will help you feel more comfortable. Sexy isn’t simply the outfit, it’s an attitude. And you can find your confidence when you choose what is naturally complementary.

Boudoir Lingerie Styles for Your Body Type

I don’t care what size you wear. There, I said it. Embrace your body as your vessel because, nowadays, sexy lingerie comes in all shapes and sizes. If sexy is an attitude, then what matters is in your head. Your confidence will manifest through you outwardly when you lean into it more than not. Same can be said on finding boudoir lingerie styles that will be best for your type.

Now that we have that out of the way, I am happy to talk about the styles of lingerie that look gorgeous on every body. I, personally, love a good bodysuit. You want something that has an under wire. Paired with mesh panels on the side and a waistband, it carves out your curves, emphasizing your shape. The cherry on top is a high-cut leg. Full breasts to mastectomies, full body to toned. If your bodysuit follows this formula, you will look stunning every time.

But if you don’t feel comfortable in a bodysuit, there are always bra and panty sets that compliment your frame. Cheeky panties in the right size can be just as sexy as a thong. Especially when worn with a well-fitted garter belt. With so many companies, there are plenty of options in different price ranges.

For those of you dreading wearing a corset, don’t worry about it! Corsets are not a requirement for an amazing boudoir session. But if you love them, find the shape and color that accentuates your breasts and waist.

Choosing the Best Boudoir Lingerie for Your Photoshoot

Not to be redundant, but the best lingerie are the pieces you feel are the most comfortable. A boudoir photoshoot will challenge your body a little. It’s not uncommon to hear from clients that they’re sore after a photoshoot because our poses aren’t common body motion. But I promise, you’ll be happy when your photos come in and you see how incredible you really look.

For your session, we recommend photographing in 2 to 3 pieces in a similar color palette. Understanding that our bodies shift depending on what part of our cycle we’re on, sometimes the piece that you really loved when you tried it on will feel stifling. Bringing extra pieces with you. If you can’t choose, it’s ok too. Just remember that outfit changes cut into your time behind the camera. But I’m happy to help you choose the perfect pieces.

If you are leaning towards a certain aesthetic, then lean in, girl. Bring your sexy bodysuit and the bra and panty set. Bring the heels that make you gleam with excitement. But to really get the most out of your session, study your favorite photos we have taken. You can find them on our Instagram and our website.
