Boudoir Photography, The One Thing You Don’t realize About Being Scared

Boudoir

How often do you embrace getting uncomfortable?

There are comfort zones, there are walls, bubbles and boundaries. They all serve their purposes and often whatever technique we use to ultimately justify protecting ourselves from “outside our norms”; each of them keep us from experiencing potentially incredible moments and feelings. It is important to realize the difference between protecting yourself and preventing yourself.

Its ok to be scared. Being scared means you are about to do something really really brave.

Don’t think about it as being too scared for a boudoir shoot think of it as being ready to do something really brave.

This blog post is long overdue! I have been wanting to share this session since I was photographing her, in the moment. This is what happiness looked like for me that day. A lovely, open woman who read all the things and prepared herself and gave up her expectations in order to experience something brand spanking new! Pantyhose or tights are one of my favorite wardrobe items, tiny cardigans, sheer bras, high waisted panties and color coordinated tops to pay homage to her partner.

She gave me control before she even walked in. I can’t lie to you and say I have that much trust all the time. I am not able to surrender like that even though I require it of my clients daily. I have struggled with letting people help me. I’ve trusted the wrong people or let my own thoughts lead me astray. We have all been there. While there are some clients who think this is just about sexy photos, that is great for them; there are the clients who lean in with all of their vulnerability and lean the fear of the unknown, what to do and how to do it with everything that they are and YOU are the women who inspire me. As I sit here on the edge of my own bravery, I think about all the ways I have been been the supporter and now I am looking back on the stories and time you have all shared with me. My gratitude is limitless.

“Bravery is the audacity to be unhindered by failures, and to walk with freedom, strength, and hope, in the face of things unknown.” Morgan Harper Nichols
